We’re strolling on a section of South Halsted Street in Bridgeport as the second installment in our walking series.

How it Works

  1. We pick a street within city limits.
  2. We pick a mile on that street (Halsted Street between 28th and 36th streets).
  3. We recommend ~10 things to do in that mile.

How to Get There

  • Divvy drop off at 28th and Halsted streets
  • No. 8 bus at 28th Street
  • The Orange Line at Halsted

What to Do

Palmisano Park is a contender for one of the best parks in the city: You can take a long walk, hit the outdoor gym, go fishing, or take in the skyline.

Ready for a drink? Get your caffeine fix at Jackalope Coffee & Tea House, and throw back beers and that famous ginger drink at Bernice’s Tavern.

Scratch your retail therapy itch at OBP Nail & Beauty Supply, where you can stock up on inexpensive self-care products. Vintage shop So Happy You’re Here has gems from recipe cards to retro Scooby-Doo stickers. No walk is complete without losing track of time at a bookstore like Tangible Books.

If you’ve worked up an appetite, pick up an $8 gyro plate from George’s Gyros or eat birthday pancakes at the new Stussy’s Diner.

Pop over to the newly renovated Ramova Theatre for concerts and live events. If you have time to kill before your show, hang out at the adjoining bar, grill, and beer garden.

We’re ending our walk at Bridgeport Bait and Tackle, where a quick chat with the owner will convince you to pick up the hobby and head back to Palmisano Park to use your new gear.
