March 14, Pi Day, is nearly here — the nerdily delicious day celebrating math and indulgence (also, Albert Einstein’s birthday). Basically, it’s a genius excuse to treat yo’ self to a slice of your favorite sweet or savory pie. Luckily, we’re sharing some of our favorites from a recent taste test, plus some pi day deals.

This shop originated in Milwaukee and opened in Chicago in early 2020. We’re big fans of their key lime. If you love a rich chocolate-forward pie, try their s’mores bar. For Pi(e) Day, you can preorder 11-inch handmade pies to pick up March 13 and 14.

First Slice Pie, Andersonville

This shop is unique for its charitable giving and outreach programs. But their pies are giving all the flavor, particularly their fruit pies. Try their Michigan sour cherry pie sweetened with cinnamon and vanilla. On March 14, all three locations are selling pie slices for $3.14.

Looking for unique flavors to expand your pie horizons? For the 3.14 day, Bang Bang is baking up sweet and savory twists on classics, like gluten-free coconut cream, a baklava cheesecake, a southern tomato pot pi(e), and more fun twists. Can’t decide? Order the Frankenpie!

Justice of The Pies, Avalon Park

This South Side shop really knows its pies. Chef and owner Maya-Camille Broussard is a 2022 James Beard Award finalist and was featured on Netflix’s “Bake Squad.” The menu features sweet and savory pies, including a salted caramel peach pie and a shepherd’s pie. Plus, they serve whole quiches, cakes, cookies, and more.

Pie, Pie My Darling, Humboldt Park

This vegan, queer woman-owned bakery is a favorite for pi(e) day. Chances are they’re already sold out of full pie orders (but it’s never too late to start planning for next year). Extra mini pies in their four flavors — key lime, s’mores, raspberry Danish, and butterfinger — will be first-come first-served on March 14 and 15.

😋 And more pie shops we love
