Who is headed to Tinley Park to catch a concert this summer? If you find yourself in the area, here’s what to know and what to do.

The south suburb was located on the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad in the mid-19th century, which helped bring in a wave of commerce and industry to the area like a washing machine factory and a soda bottling plant. After World War II, the area’s population grew rapidly.

Tinley continues to attract families today — including Chicago North Side native Stephanie Pyrzynski, who started her blog, Tinley Park Mom, in 2017. She is sharing a jam-packed itinerary.

Something to Eat

  • Frankie’s Ristorante is one of the rare restaurants this far from the city that brings the fine dining experience to the suburbs.
  • Pekoe & Bean is a lovely tearoom that serves lavender lattés, macarons, scones, and full afternoon tea party offerings.
  • Tandoori House is a new restaurant. Pyrzynski recommends the fresh vegetables, naan, and tandoori chicken.
  • Plush Horse is a delightful ice cream shop with Superman and Cookie Monster flavors and ice cream roll cakes.

Something to See

  • Zabrocki Plaza is in the heart of downtown Tinley. This is where you can hop on the Metra, check out the creative artwork on benches, or picnic by the fountain.
  • Tinley Park Library has a boardwalk that takes you through the preserved wetland the library shares. The entire second floor has a kids play area and booths for tweens and teens to chill.
  • The Vogt House was recently renovated and restored by new brewery and taproom Banging Gavel. It is a jewel from 1865 brought back to its shining glory.
