The 3 Unwritten Rules of Chicago Farmers Markets

00:00:00

As more farmers markets open for the summer, City Cast Chicago podcast host Jacoby Cochran loves checking out markets across the city. He helped me round up some spots.

🍎 Fruits and veggies are abundant at one of the city’s largest markets, including from Windy City Mushroom, Growing Home, and Oriana’s Orchard.

🗓️ Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Best lunchtime market: Daley Plaza Market in the Loop

🍎 Hungry downtown and need to grocery shop? More than 30 vendors are at the weekday market.

🗓️ Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

🍎 Opened in 2019 to increase the neighborhood’s access to healthy food, the Southwest Side market also has live entertainment like mariachi, folkloric dancing, and more.

🗓️ Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Returns this week!)

🍎 Bring the littles for face painting and a petting zoo while you shop.

🗓️ Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Best side of history: Maxwell Street Farmers Market

🍎 Founded on a street once called the “Ellis Island of the Midwest” and where Chicago Blues became popular, the market was created by Jewish immigrants in 1912. Today, the market is on the Near West Side.

🗓️ Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Best place for a meet-cute: Logan Square Farmers Market

🍎 Flirt with fellow singles at the “horny” farmers market.

🗓️ Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
